Maintaining the Audiences Interest in Talking HeadsOne character lecture to a camera for half an hour, Do you call that drama? How does Alan Bennet quiz to maintain the audiences interest in his Talking Heads? In A Lady of Letters, Patricia Routledge plays the part of IreneRuddock, who is a precise lonely cleaning lady that has an obsession with writingletters to anyone to complain some the smallest of things. Shelives by herself, and has through with(p) since her mother died. A Lady ofLetters is a drama because it includes varied amounts of lightingat certain points of the video. Routledge also acts when she isspeaking to the camera, for example she gets very upset at some pointse.g. when she talks about when the law told her the elflike boy overthe road had died of leukaemia. She also expresses herself well by heractions. At prototypical Irene teachms like a very highly classed woman, very brawny and realizes what is wrong and right. She also appears to bea very respectab le lady. We know this because in the video, it showsher having her tea and biscuits with a napkin. However, throughout thevideo, we see some changes to Irene we see that she might not be asrespectable as we first thought. One of these reasons is because whenshe goes to the doctors, she says I said I was getting upset, like Idid before This indicates that she may have been ill because ofcertain happenings which were probably to do with the letters whichshe writes.Shortly after this, she lets us know about when the vicar came around, talking to her about god. She therefore tells us about how she is anAtheist. We do not stay this because you would have thought someoneas respectable as Irene would cerebrate in God and go to church everySunday morning. They wear upont expect you to be an atheist when youre a drip This shows that because she told the Vicar that she was anatheist, he did not know what to say, because he like us anticipate herto believe in God and go to church like ever y other respectable ladylike her.Next we hear about her visit from the Police, which is where we findout what she really is like. At first, the male police man talks aboutthe different types of letters which she had wrote in the past, andthen we find out that she has been told to keep the peace by thecourts. At this point, we eventually realise that she isnt that
