Macbeth - A Tragic Hero :: essays research papers
William Shakespeares play Macbeth, written in the 1600s is a perfect manikin of Shakespeares ability to manipulate his audience by dint of creating a sad hero. A tragic hero who, because of a deformity, tumbles from a well-respected hero to a cowardless murderer. It is through Shakespeares manipulation of figurative language, dramatic conventions and social expectations of the seventeenth century, do the audience witness the demise of this mixed up man. Macbeths piece of the tragic hero is enhanced even more when the characters around him influence his decisions, creating mayhem inside his mind and disorder throughout Scotland. Shakespeare positions his audience to respond to the central floor the struggle between good and evil, by illustrating to the audience his weaknesses, which through the guidance of the supernatural, leads to murder and mayhem and eventually madness. It is this influence of the supernatural that leads to Macbeths tragic persona and in turn his physical a nd mental destruction. Shakespeare utilises these techniques to embody in Macbeth characteristics indicative of that of a seventeenth century tragic hero.Aristotle described the Greek image of the tragic hero as one who takes part in a fictional account of a set of events that is serious, complete and of a certain magnitude. (The Poetics) Macbeth conforms to the image of the tragic hero by possessing a flaw and dying because if it. His flaw of being led besides easily is evident through the actions of characters who influence Macbeth. Macbeth is involved in a story intertwined with evil, disorder, conflict and failure all resulting finally in his death. Part of being a tragic hero is possessing a flaw. A flaw which will inevitably lead to self-destruction the fall of the tragic hero. In the play, the central protagonist Macbeth, is confronted with the supernatural and the prophesy of becoming king. He cannot help tho want this position, as this flaw also includes his weakness thro ugh over ambition. It is generally said that those possessing a flaw will die. The first Thane of Cawdor was a traitor, Duncan was too trusting, Banquo did not act on the knowledge he had about Macbeths murders, Lady Macbeth helped plot the murder of Duncan, and Macbeth destroyed the natural order and harmony of the time. all in all of these deaths are a result of Macbeths over ambition to become king, fuelled by the prophecies of the evil witches. Like Macbeth, a tragic hero has choices, a sense of right and wrong of right from wrong and in the end must die, because to live would create mayhem and a feeling that his actions were justified.

The author of the adventurous natural World, Mr. Aldous Huxley lived in a social order in which he had been exposed to all terce of these systems. In the society of the Brave New World, which is set 600 years into the future, individualisticity is not condoned and the special motto Community, Identity, Stability frames the structure of the Totalitarian Government. The Brave New World community is divided into five castes ranging from the Alphas, who are the most intellectually superior, and ending with the Epsilons who are the most intellectually inferior. Identity is portrayed in the learn Center, where babies are not born but made then separated into the five classes. Stability in this society is insured through limitations placed on the intelligence of each group. The fundamental tenant behind the New World is UTILITARIAN TOTALITARIANISM. The goal of utilitarianism is to make the society happy as a unhurt and thus more efficient. A Totalitarian Government is kept in the New World by control, condition, and a lack of emotion and intelligence.Through cognizance people are not just created, they are conditioned to guarantee the happiness in humanity, What man has joined nature, is powerless to put asunder, shows how much conditioning can change behavior. In his writing, Huxley shows that misinformation starts at birth and can be used against us whenever we are unaware of it. The New World is a pass of capitalism and communism. Capitalism seeks to stimulate trade market to generate a substantial amount of money, which results in economic benefits for the country. Fascism is a form of right-wing totalitarianism which emphasizes the command of the individual to advance the interests of the state. The Nazi idea of life was that all non-Aryans, should be scorned, and German unification should be reached. There are many characters in the play which contribute to the comedy and trickery which is abundant in the play in particular Lucio is a character who is often seen as comical due to his lose of dominance in his speech and his ignorance of other characters.He is often associated with bawdy peevishness but is also associated with noblemen which brings his character into debate. The main source of trickery which engages the audience is the bed trick which is cunningly devised by the Duke, which again brings his and also Isabellas character into debate. Lucio is one of the main sources of comedy in Measure for Measure, his humour and almost careless speech engages the audience which will result in the audience liking his character.His speech on occ asions appears to possess no restraint which is evident from his conversation with the two gentlemen when he proudly proclaims I have purchased as many diseases under her roof as come to. Lucios footstep suggests the he is proud of this achievement which in turn results in the audience being humoured by Lucio. As of yet Lucio is painted as being a bawdy character solely to humour the audience with his ridiculous imagination some say a sea maid spawned him. The audience will therefore gain a different locating of Isabella as well as being sceptical on her position in the sisterhood, she appears to show no insight to the effect(s) this trick will have on Angelo and Mariana as well as her own reputation instead she seems to immediately agree with the decision without hesitation.The audience will believe Isabella is thinking only or so herself, as she wants to exposes and humiliate Angelo for his earlier refused proposal to Isabella. The use of content already shows that Isabella appears to be excited and eager about this proposal, the tone also appears to be elated again emphasising her eagerness. To summarise, comedy and trickery are both key aspects of the play which engage the audience into debate.The audience will gain insight of the characters and will be able to judge the characters on a number of occasions by considering the arguments for and against the decisions these characters make. The play on a whole I found very interesting and engaging, as a problem play many of the decisions made by the characters can be argued for and against, hence the audiences judgements on these characters will be diverse as everyone will perceive characters decisions in a different manner.

I also believe that if there is enough evidence to guarantee widespread u se of the oral cholera vaccine people in Haiti and other nations would become healthier, preventing them from infectious diseases such as cholera.The World Bank, UN, and other organizations willing to participate in this mission would help fund the project. not only would these solutions ensure health, but it would also bring contributor nations one-step closer to the millennium goals of Combating Diseases and Environmental sustainability. Before cholera spreads to the U. S. and around the world, we need to see this outbreak contained and controlled in Haiti. Hitler & Stalin The Roots of Evil Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin were two of the most ruthless and infamous dictators of the twentieth century. They each left a legacy of cruelty, terror, and death managing to change the raceway of history to this day. Through break their lives, both leaders surprisingly had many similarities. They both lived deprived childhoods, with crazy fathers and adoring mothers. Both suffered from inferiority complexes and paranoia. Most importantly, they were both gage murderers.Joseph Stalin is responsible for the murders of more than 20 million lives, including those of his own people, political opponents, as well as innocent victims, whom he considered a threat. Born in the Georgian village of Gori on December 21, 1879, Stalin grew up with an abusive father who savagely beat both him and his mother. One time, Stalin was beaten so severely that he after fightds found blood in his urine. This abuse had a lasting impression on him, leaving him with low se lf-esteem and an inferiority complex throughout his life.Stalins mother hoped he may one day become a priest, and sent him to the church services choir. At age 15, he entered the theological seminary. His intelligence, reputable memory, and attention to details impressed his teachers, but they also witnessed a stubborn, violent side to his nature. He soon turned away from religion, and instead became attracted to anarchism, radical terrorism, and Marxism. His violent, revolutionary activities lead to his expulsion from the seminary after just 5 years.As a child, Stalin was always quick to lose his temper and easily harbored grudges against people. His whole life consisted in endeavor against those he put down in his mind as enemies. In 1927, after being examined by a famous neurologist, Stalin was diagnosed as paranoid. As a political leader, Stalin was aggressive and cruel. He eliminated the people he imagined as enemies, having them removed completely from all historical recor ds and pictures, thus erasing their memories from existence.His aggressive characteristics also dominated his family life. standardized his own father, Stalin abused his wife, Nadia, and his sons, both psychologically and physically. His abuse caused one of his sons to become an alcoholic and the other to attempt committing suicide. On November 9, 1932, the morning after a violent argument took place between Nadia and Stalin at a party, Nadia was found perfectly in their apartment shot in the heart. It is believed that Stalin either drove her to suicide, or killed her himself.After her death, Stalin never went to visit her grave at the cemetery. On March 5, 1953, he himself suffered a brain hemorrhage, and died suddenly. Foreshadowing “A Good Man Is Hard to Find”
A Good Man Is Hard to Find, is a narration of tragedy about a family planning a vacation against the grandmothers better judgment. The grandmother wishes to take a trip to Tennessee, because of a denounce on the loose. Bailey is planning a trip to Florida even though the grandmother warns him that the Misfit is heading toward Florida. Before their long journey to Florida, the Family decides to stop at a diner to eat. During the visit at the diner, the family discusses the Misfit with the diners owner. The diners owners wife expresses her fear of being robbed by the misfit. After eating their solid food and ending their conversations he family leaves for Florida. Outside of Toombsboro the grandmother remembered an old plantation she once visited when she was young.She describes the house and tells them about the secret panel. The Children have never seen a house with a secret panel and throw a fit to see it. Bailey is not willing to go to the house, but the children insist. The gra ndmother shows Bailey the road and he turns down it. As they were traveling the road, the grandmother jumps as she remembered the house is in Tennessee not Georgia. When she jumped she caused Bailey to lose control of the car and runs into a ditch. No one in the family was hurt, but the ehicle was as well damaged to drive leaving the family stranded. The family had no other choice but to sit and wait for someone to drive by. As they were sitting on street, they adage a car coming over the hills.The car stopped at the accident and out stepped three men carrying guns. The grandmother notices that one of the men tint familiar, but she cannot put it together. As she realizes who he is the grandmother asks him if he is The Misfit. The Misfit tells the other two men two take Bailey and his boy to the woods. As the grandmother is reasoning with , she hears two gunshots. When the men come back they are alone. The Misfits tells he men to get Baileys wife, little girl, and the baby. They ta ke them to woods and three gunshots echo in the woods. The grandmother screams hysterically and tells the Misfit to pray. The grandmother touches the Misfit on the shoulder and he shot her three times. From the starting of the story, it is obvious the Misfit is being setup to come into the story posterior on. Foreshadowing built the suspense causing the reader to wonder what would happen next. This information did not tell how or where the story would end. Knowing about the Misfit from the beginning pulled it all together and made the story much more interesting.
